Thankful, grateful
Our Beautiful Challenges — Marie
As I get older, I find myself thinking more and more about the people who helped shape my life.
Not just my family.
Not just my closest friends.
But all the people who crossed my path and left a positive mark on my journey.
When I look at my life today, I know I did not get here alone.
There have been so many people who supported me along the way.
Some were there during my hardest moments.
Some encouraged me when I doubted myself.
Some believed in me before I believed in myself.
And some may never fully realize how much their kindness meant.
Living with cerebral palsy has taught me many things, but one lesson stands out above the rest:
None of us make it through life alone.
Every person needs support at some point.
Every person needs encouragement.
Every person needs someone who sees their potential when they are struggling to see it themselves.
I have been fortunate to have many of those people in my life.
My family has been my foundation.
They stood beside me through challenges, victories, setbacks, and milestones.
My friends have given me laughter, comfort, understanding, and companionship.
And then there are the people I never expected.
The teachers.
The advocates.
The neighbors.
The healthcare professionals.
The volunteers.
The strangers who offered a kind word exactly when I needed it.
The people who may have only been in my life for a short time but still made a lasting difference.
Sometimes I wish I could sit down with every single one of them.
I wish I could tell them how much their support mattered.
How much their encouragement helped.
How much their kindness stayed with me long after the moment had passed.
Because the truth is, we often don’t realize the impact we have on other people’s lives.
A simple act of kindness can change someone’s entire day.
A few encouraging words can help someone keep going.
A person who takes the time to believe in someone else can help them discover strengths they didn’t know they had.
When I think about the life I have today, I realize it was built not only through my own determination, but through the support, love, and kindness of so many others.
And for that, I will always be grateful.
I may never be able to thank every person individually.
But I hope they know this:
You mattered.
Your kindness mattered.
Your support mattered.
And your belief in me helped me become the person I am today.
Because sometimes the greatest gifts we receive in life are the people who help us carry the journey.
